Awesome Gem
A late bloomer like many of Awesome Again's progeny, Awesome Gem didn’t debut until his three-year-old season. However, over the past five years he become one of the most endearing horses in the country.
In 2010, he captured his first Grade One win in the Hollywood Gold Cup (G1) before embarking upon an ultra successful eight-year-old campaign in 2011. The gutsy veteran won both the Lone Star Park Handicap and Longacres Mile. He was second in the Grade One Goodwood and Cornhusker Handicap. Heading into 2012, his bankroll stands at $2,738,270.
Awesome Gem is resting on the farm after a minor hind end injury was detected after the Goodwood. WPT fully intends to bring Gem as a nine-year-old. He loves what he does and is as tough as they come.
Below is a TVG feature done on Awesome Gem before the 2011 Longacres Mile:
Terry Finley on Awesome Gem:
“Awesome Gem is a horse of a lifetime. Every time he goes out there he gives it his all. We apprecaite all the support from his Partners and fans over the past few years. We expect him to come back completely sound in 2012. All of us at WPT couldn’t be prouder of what he’s accomplished.”
