O.J. Jauregui
O.J. Jauregui trains the West Point horses racing in the northern California circuit. A native of southern California, O.J. grew up around the racetrack in the early 70s, observing and helping his father, an exercise rider who also specialized in breaking and training young horses. As a young man, O.J. also worked as a veterinary assistant for Dr. Robert Baker in the Chino Valley Equine Hospital. O.J.'s father passed along his passion for horses to two sons, with O.J.'s brother Luis going on to become a professional jockey and, now, serving as a steward in southern California.
Before hanging out his own shingle as a trainer, O.J. assisted in a number of barns, including those of John Sadler, Bill Spawr, Henry Moreno and Richard Mulhall. He also worked as a foreman for Hall of Famer Jack Van Berg and assistant to Armando Lage. His most successful horse to date is stakes winner North Beach.
O.J. is known in the racing world as an excellent horseman who can turn around even troubled starters and get them back into the winner's circle. He uses his keen powers of observation to keep his horses happy and sound which, along with savvy decisions about spotting them, helps the horses in his care perform up to their fullest potential.
O.J. lives in Castro Valley, California.
