ETHAN MAN WINS RETURN RACE

August 28, 2003 · By · Share

Ethan Man made a successful return to the races yesterday scoring a measured length victory in a "three other than/optional claimer" at Arlington Park.  Ethan Man was a bit fractious before the race, which could not be totally unexpected after being off for 16 months.  However, after he loaded he was all professionalism on the track.  Ethan Man broke well and was allowed to settle in fourth, stalking about two lengths off the lead.  Jockey Rene Douglas had a comfortable hold on Ethan let him relax early.  The first quarter over a very heavy track went in an honest 22.2.  As the field advanced into the turn, Douglas gave Ethan his cue, and he began to advance easily on the outside.  Ethan Man was just over a length back after a half-mile that went in 46.2.  As the field entered the stretch, Ethan Man stuck his head in front and continued on well to draw off to a measured length victory.  The final time for the race was 1:11.2 over the tiring strip.  Ethan Man collected $21,600 for the victory pushing his earnings over $172,000 from only six starts.  Ethan Man also improved his record to four wins and a third from his six career starts.

This was an ideal return race for Ethan Man.  He did not have to run his eyeballs out to win the race, but we get a start back under his belt which will tighten him up.  After dismounting Ethan Man, jockey Rene Douglas said, "That is a racehorse."  Ethan Man cooled out well after the race.  The victory sets us up perfectly to explore a couple possible options.  The two races we will consider for Ethan's next start are either the $75,000 Marfa Stakes at 6.5 furlongs on September 20th at Turfway Park or the $250,000  Phoenix Breeders' Cup(G3) on opening day, October 3rd at Keeneland.
