West Point's NY Bred two-year-old Thunderprince scored an impressive victory breaking his maiden by three and three-quarter lengths over a muddy track on October 20th at Belmont. A son of Indian Charlie, Thunderprince was making his second start for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin.
Kiaran McLaughlin said after the race, "This colt has talent. He should only move forward from this."
Breaking from post seven, Thunderprince was away from the gate a tad slowly and Richard Migliore nudged him into contention. Thunderprince sat fourth less than a length back after a quarter-mile. Richard Migliore kept Thunderprince on the outside as he moved up to third a half-length back after a half-mile. Migliore asked Thunderprince for some run on the turn and he surged to the front after six furlongs. Thunderprince widened his lead through the stretch to win by three and three-quarter lengths.
Thunderprince earned $25,200 for the race. He galloped out well after the race and will be pointed for an allowance race in November.
