GET DOWN ROMPS AT WOODBINE

May 10, 2005 · By · Share

Get Down, West Point's three-year-old son of Doneraile Court, scored a domimating victory in a "two other than" allowance at Woodbine.  Breaking from post position three under regular jockey Slade Callaghan, Get Down got away alertly and went up to prompt the pace while racing three wide.  Get Down sat third less than a length back after a quarter-mile in 23.1.  Callaghan kept a tight hold on Get Down as he continued to rate outside the pace.  When given his cue midway through the turn, Get Down began drawing away before exploding in the stretch drawing away with every stride to win by over eight-lengths.  Slade Callaghan never had to resort to anything more than a light hand ride as he was able to put him under wraps late.  Get Down got the last furlong in the seven furlong race in a eye-popping 11.4.

Trainer Nancy Triola said, "It was perfect.  He'd been training great, and he showed what kind of talent he has.  I think he's getting better and better."

Our ultimate goal with Get Down is to the $1,000,000 Queen's Plate on June 26th at Woodbine.  We are one positive result away from making that happen.  Get Down's next start will likely come in the $150,000 Queen's Plate Trial on June 5th at Woodbine.
