YOLANDA RETURNS AND WINS!!!

June 08, 2006 · By · Share

Yolanda B. Too made a triumphant return to the races scoring a strong victory in the "two other than" allowance on June 8th over a sloppy <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Belmont track.  Breaking sharply, Yolanda B. Too was closer to the pace than might have been expected.  She tracked the pacesetter from the outside before drawing on even terms midway through the turn.  After engaging in a prolonged stretch duel, Yolanda B. Too dug in resolutely and began drawing away in the last sixteenth of a mile to secure the victory.  The running time for the six furlongs was a sparkling 1:09.3.

Trainer Rick Violette said, "This filly is as tough as they come.  We know she's got talent, but for her to come back off a layoff like this and beat good fillies like she did tells you something.  This race was no walkover.  The runner-up was the filly that beat us in our debut.  We just have to keep her healthy, because we are going to have all kinds of fun with her.  I said before she ever ran that she was going to be a graded stakes winner.  We've already been close a couple times, and I still think she's got a world of talent."<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Jockey Eibar Coa said, "I thought my filly might be in a little bit more of a tracking position, but she broke sharply.  I just let her go a little bit, and then she came back to me.  She was doing it all on her own down the backstretch.  I didn't have to ask her at all.  When she got up outside that other filly she just kept going.  I had to get after her a little bit, but she really kept going strongly.  I was able to just really ride her in the last fifty yards."

Yolanda's win keeps West Point Thoroughbred's hot streak going.  West Point has won four of its six races in June.  The last five fillies that have started for West Point have all won dating back to Brendolyn's win on May 25th. Yolanda B. Too earned $28,200 for her effort bringing her career earnings to and impressive $176,600.
