Ollie Jet runs third in Lafayette!!
Ollie Jet ran a game third beaten just two-lengths in total in his stakes debut on April 7th at Keeneland. Ollie broke well and was allowed to settle early in midpack. He sat fifth after a quarter-mile and remained in fifth after a half-mile. Ollie Jet swung wide on the turn for home and launched a rally into contention. He loomed up on the outside at the top of the stretch but was slightly outfinished in the stretch to finish third.
Dallas Stewart said, "This is a hard trying colt. He proved he belonged with this type of stakes company. I thought he ran great. I really liked the way he settled. That's going to make him more effective. We now know he can run on the dirt, the turf and polytrack. We are going to be able to pick and choose our spots and hopefully have a lot of fun this summer."
Jockey Jamie Theriot said, "This is a nice colt. I wish I could have saved some ground on the turn, but I didn't want to get caught and have my run stopped. The winner was very good, but my colt showed me a lot. I think he showed he fit in this race. I decided not to send him because there was a lot of speed, and he came back to me really nicely. When I asked him to go he got after it. We just got outfinished."
This was a great effort by Ollie Jet in his first stakes race. We expect to see him in many more.
