Tater Tutt wins!!!
Tater Tutt went wire-to-wire holding on determinedly late to break his maiden at Belmont. Tater Tutt broke well then battled through contentious early fractions of 22.2 and 46.3 while receiving pressure from the outside. Tater Tutt opened up a slim advantage at the top of the stretch and maintained an edge through the stretch under stiff handling. Tater Tutt received a final challenge in the last fifty yards, but he had his head down at the wire to score a nose victory in the three-way photo.
Jockey Mike Luzzi said, "I think the horse could possibly go a little further, maybe seven furlongs if he could relax a bit and sit off a horse. We were running into a pretty decent headwind in the stretch, but he kept running hard. I got after him quite a bit, and he dug in. The wire came right at the perfect time."
Rick Violette said, "I'm glad today's race was exactly six furlongs. I don't know that we would have gotten the win if the wire were a foot on either side of where it was. This was a good spot for us, and we got the job done. It doesn't matter whether you win by an inch or a mile. A win is a win."
Tater Tutt earned $15,600 for the victory.
