Irish Smoke favored in Spinaway(G1)

August 31, 2007 · By · Share

Irish Smoke, our two-year-old daughter of Smoke Glacken, drew post six of ten in Sunday's $250,000 Spinaway Stakes(G1) at Saratoga.  Irish Smoke enters the Spinaway off of a dominating debut win on August 2nd at Saratoga in which she earned the highest last race Beyer in the field, a 94.

While Irish Smoke surrenders experience to the field, we could not have asked for a better draw.  She has also trained like a "good thing" since her debut, and she comes into the race firing on all cylinders.  She faces winners for the first time and will stretch out from five-furlongs to seven-furlongs for the Spinaway.

Trainer Patrick Biancone said, "This filly acts more like a four-year-old than a two-year-old.  She's very relaxed.  She'll let you use her speed whenever you want.  She gives up experience, but she is very fast.  The way she relaxes, I think she will handle the added distance.  You never know, but she has been so professional from day one."

The Spinaway is scheduled as race ten of eleven with a post time of 5:49 EDT.
