El Gato Malo entered in Gold Rush Stakes
El Gato Malo drew post four in Saturday's $75,000 Gold Rush Stakes at Golden Gate Fields. El Gato Malo enters the Gold Rush off of a dominating debut victory by over five-lengths on November 18th at Hollywood Park. He earned an impressive 89 Beyer speed figure in the race. Jockey Pat Valenzuela will make the trip from southern California to ride El Gato Malo in the Gold Rush.
A two-year-old son of El Corredor, El Gato Malo is trained by Craig Dollase. Dollase discussed his charge's prospects in the Gold Rush saying, "We thought about the Hollywood Futurity, but we saw this race and decided that it would be the right way to step El Gato Malo up into stakes company. He's only had one start, and we're stretching him out around two turns for the first time. He looks like he'll stretch out, so this was a good opportunity to try and earn some black type."
A victory in the Gold Rush would continue a spectacular year for West Point Thoroughbreds. The stable has won five Grade 1 races with four different horses in 2007. The Grade 1 wins have been part of ten graded stakes wins in total. The stable has captured over $4.3 million in purse earnings and sent five horses to this year's Breeders' Cup World Championships.
