Hennessy's Hope wins
Hennessy's Hope made his first start around two-turns a winning one as he went wire-to-wire at Bay Meadows. Hennessy's Hope broke alertly and went to the lead setting moderate fractions through the first quarter-mile in 24.1 and the half in 49 flat. Hennessy's Hope faced a serious challenge on the second turn, but he dug in gamely and responded well by repelling his pursuers with a sixteenth of a mile to go. Hennessy's Hope drew off again in the final stages to win by three-lengths.
Trainer O.J. Jauregui said, "He ran a great race. I thought we would really benefit from stretching him out, and he took it right to them. When they tried to come get him he found a little more and put them away. I thought he might get courageous on the front end, and that's exactly what he was. (Jockey) Chad Schvaneveldt said that the horse kept trying and was still running at the end."
Hennessy's Hope will run back in mid-April.
