Two-year-old horse updates

April 08, 2008 · By · Share

We just returned from Ocala and thought it would be a good time to update the status of this year's remaining two-year-olds.  We are delighted with the progress of the class.

City Place - Librarian colt
Trainer:
  Kiaran McLaughlin
We just saw this colt down in Ocala.  We stopped on him for a few months after he came out of the sale with shin problems.  We went through this same issue with Saratoga Russell and the time ultimately benefited him.  He'll stay in Florida for the next few months and then head up north to Kiaran McLaughlin's barn before Saratoga.

Elusive Quality - Lavender colt
Trainer:
  Dallas Stewart
This is an incredibly big and incredibly handsome colt.  He's clearly still growing as he spends most of his time sleeping in his stall - which is always a good sign for a two-year-old.  On the track, he's a total professional.  He's got a great stride and moves remarkably light for such a large horse.  He will ship to Dallas Stewart by the end of this month.

Forest Camp - Lifeinthefastlane filly
Trainer:
  Craig Dollase
She's doing very well at Peacefields Farm.  She came out of the sale very well and is enjoying her time off before returning to the track.

Forestry - West's Secret Filly
Trainer:
Bob Holthus
The folks at M&H Training Center have really taken a liking to this filly.  She acts like the consummate professional around the barn and on the track.  She'll be ready to ship to the track a bit later this spring.

Indian Charlie - Rising Tide colt
Trainer:
  Kiaran McLaughlin
This big, fleshy colt bears a strong resemblance to our rising star, Kohana.  Apparently Indian Charlie stamps his offspring.  He's a handsome colt with a long and comfortable stride.  He'll ship to the track later this spring.

Peace Rules - Justforthegirls colt
Trainer:
  Craig Dollase
We just shipped him to California.  He handled the trip well and has comfortably settled into his new home at Peacefields Farm.  This colt has a ton of personality and is intensely focused on the track.  He seems like the type of colt who will enjoy being a racehorse.

Peace Rules - Mambo Mistress filly
Trainer:
  Kiaran McLaughlin
We just did a surgery on this filly to remove a small flake in her ankle.  She handled the surgery well and will rest up on the farm for the next month or so before resuming training.

Phosphorescent
Trainer:
  Steve Asmussen
This colt has developed wonderfully at M&H Training Center.  He has great muscle tone and trains with enthusiasm.  He'll head up to Kentucky with the first group of two-year-olds before the Derby.

Pure Prize - Gloria's Gold colt
Trainer:
  Dallas Stewart
This is a very large, raw-boned colt.  At first blush, he looks like he'll have a lunging stride and yet he wastes very little action on the track.  He's got a very smooth way of moving and covers plenty of ground.  He'll head up to Dallas with the first group of two-year-olds before the Kentucky Derby.

Read The Footnotes - Re Re Be Be colt
Trainer:
  Kiaran McLaughlin
We really like how this colt came forward after the sale.  We attribute this to the way David McKathan brings his two-year-olds along.  He never pushes them too hard.  We really think he's going to be a nice colt.  He'll ship up to Kiaran later in the spring.

Silver Deputy - Beloved filly
Trainer:
  Craig Dollase
This filly is getting some time to decompress after the sale.  She's still maturing physically, and each athlete is treated like the individual they are.  She will be a filly that we don't really increase the pressure with until this summer.

Tapit - Looking For A Star colt
Trainer:
  Kiaran McLaughlin
This colt was the star of the show down in Ocala this weekend.  He's certainly a flashy colt, but his class extends far beyond his good looks.  He has the mind of an older horse and trains with the same maturity.  We have high hopes for this colt.  He'll ship to the track a bit later this spring.

Teton Forest - Princess Sequoia colt
Trainer:
  Dale Romans
This colt turned several heads this weekend too.  He's a great looking colt with a wonderful way of moving.  He'll ship up to Kentucky with the group of two-year-olds prior to Derby.

Tribal Rule - Weho filly
Trainer:
  Craig Dollase
She's doing great and one of the prettiest fillies we've ever owned.  She's also extremely correct and behaves like a total sweetheart.  They absolutely love her at the farm where she's enjoying some time off.  She will definitely be a crowd pleaser this spring.

West Acre - Classic Beauty colt
Trainer:
  Kiaran McLaughlin
This colt caught the eye of several partners this weekend.  He's a gorgeous colt with a great way of going.  He'll ship during the second half of May if all goes well.
