Cat On The Line wins again

May 26, 2008 · By · Share It was warm in Philadelphia on Memorial Day.  The thermometer climbed into the mid-80s.  However, the temperature of the day paled in comparison to the hot streak Cat On The Line continued with a stirring win in the "two other than" allowance at Philadelphia Park.  Cat On The Line has now won four times and finished second twice in six 2008 starts.

Breaking from the rail, Cat On The Line was a little sluggish at the break and settled in sixth five-lengths back after a quarter-mile in 21.4.  He remained in sixth still nearly five-lengths back after a half-mile in 44.1.  Cat On The Line weaved his way between horses and launched a furious stretch run.  He collared the odds-on favorite inside the last sixteenth of a mile and got up in the shadow of the wire to score victory by a head.  He stopped the teletimer for six-furlongs in a sharp 1:09.4.

Trainer Lupe Preciado said, "That was a great race.  It looked like he had a little trouble on the turn, and he still overcame it.  This was a nice field.  The horse we beat was already a stakes winner at Santa Anita.  He ran big.  1:09 and change is a nice time.  He's done great this year.  We've been patient, and he's rewarded us.  We'll keep this going for as long as we can.  We can pick and choose our spots now."

Jockey Roberto Alvarado said, "They were going very fast in front of me.  I let my horse relax and hoped he'd be there for me when I asked him.  He just kept coming when I asked him.  That was a nice horse we beat.  My colt ran big."

Cat On The Line is a four-year-old son of Tale Of The Cat.  He pushed his 2008 earnings over $100,000 and career earnings over $130,000 from nineteen career starts.
