Lear's Princess sells for 2.7 million
Lear's Princess, our Grade 1 winning daughter of Lear Fan, sold for $2.7 million to Shadwell Farm at last night's Fasig-Tipton Kentucky select mixed sale. Unraced at two, Lear's Princess was a winner on dirt, turf, and polytrack. She defeated 2007 Eclipse award Champion Rags To Riches in the Grade 1 Gazelle Stakes at Belmont. That race's stirring stretch duel was recognized as one of the top moments in racing for the year.
Purchased for $110,000 at the 2006 OBS March Select sale, Lear's Princess' race record was four wins, three seconds and one third from ten career starts. She earned $491,870 on the track. Other than her Gazelle win, Lear's Princess placed in the Grade 1 CCA Oaks and Grade 1 Alabama. She also placed in the Grade 2 Louisville Stakes and the Grade 3 Endeavor BC Stakes. She also captured the listed Tweedside Stakes on the turf. Her record of accomplishments was stellar.
West Point Thoroughbreds President Terry Finley said, "Last night was a tremendous evening for both our Partners and the company. This filly is one of the best there is. She beat the champion Rags To Riches and was equally adept on any surface. She was the favorite in the Breeders' Cup, and that says something about the depth of her ability. There are few fillies that anyone will ever own like her. She carried the black and gold silks with the utmost class. We know she will be a wonderful broodmare and congratulate the Partners on her success."
