Justwhistledixie: The "People's Champion"
With 46 days until the Kentucky Oaks, all the media buzz has been about two-year-old champion Stardom Bound and graded stakes winner Rachel Alexandra. The pundits wanted this to be a matchup between two heavyweights.
However, like a lightning fast hook by Louisville's own Muhammad Ali, nobody saw a new contender waiting to lay claim to the Kentucky Oaks favoritism belt. West Point Thoroughbreds' own Justwhistledixie was bet down to 5/2 favoritism in the first and only Kentucky Oaks future wager pool to earn the title of the "People's Champion". Justwhistledixie opened as the favorite on the first day of wagering and never relinquished the position throughout the four day window,
A three-year-old daughter of Dixie Union, Justwhistledixie turned heads and drew the attention of bettors after a dominating victory in the Grade 2 Davona Dale Stakes at Gulfstream Park. "Dixie" will make her next start in the Grade 2 Bonnie Miss at Gulfstream.
West Point Thoroughbreds President Terry Finley commented on Dixie's favoritism saying, "We really appreciate the support of the public. Dixie is one of the sweetest fillies we've ever been around, and her talent speaks for itself. She's won four races in a row, and she's never been challenged. The bettors recognized her accomplishments. She may not have been the choice of the media, but we're more than happy to accept the backing of the betting public. We're calling her the "People's Champion" around the barn."
Justwhistledixie has won four of six career starts and earned over $217,000.
