Encore Saritta Sparkles In Debut
There is one word to describe her. Fast. We always knew our two-year-old filly by Consolidator was a speedy one. When gates sprung on Friday in her first start at Saratoga, our thoughts were solidified. Encore Saritta sprinted to a one-length victory at Saratoga on Friday to give West Point Thoroughbreds our first two-year-old winner of the summer meet.
Under Robby Albarado, the speedy chestnut filly broke alertly and dueled on the lead down the backstretch under quick fractions of 21.75 and 45.35. At the top of the stretch, she opened a four length lead. After a few green strides in the stetch and several heart-pounding moments for the West Point team, the black and gold crossed the wire first. Encore Saritta stopped the teletimer in a solid 59.17 seconds.
Trainer Dallas Stewart was thrilled. "This filly is fast. I've always liked her and knew she would perform well in her first start. She was a bit green in the stretch, but it did not cost us the win. She was much the best."
Jockey Robby Albarado was all smiles after the race. "She was great. I just had to hold on. Through the lane she saw something and took a few awkward steps. Besides that she was awesome. She really exploded when I called on her."
Encore Saritta earned $33,000 for the victory. We are looking forward to an exciting summer with her.
