Successful Score Wins!
Success in horse racing is measured by one thing and one thing only; whoever gets to the finish line first. In saying this, it is fair to say West Point Thoroughbreds had a successful day at Saratoga yesterday with our two-year-old colt Successful Score.
The striking bay son of Successful Appeal broke sharply in the seven furlong contest, sat just off the leaders, and prompted the early pace through opening fractions of 22.84 and 46.26. At the top of the stretch, when called upon by jockey Robby Albarado, the colt exploded and drew away under steady urging to win by 3 ½ lengths. The final time for the seven furlongs was 1:24.61.
Robby Albarado was thrilled with the performance. "This colt acts like he can run all day. I had to take a hold of him a little bit during the race because he wanted to duel with the leader. We had an inside trip most of the way, but when I swung him out and asked for run, he responded. He was just playing through the lane."
Trainer Dale Romans was equally pleased. "The addition of blinkers definitely helped this horse. He does everything right in the mornings and afternoons. He is all class. We will have some fun with this colt."
Successful Score earned $30,000 for the victory bringing his lifetimes earnings to just shy of $50,000. He has one win and two seconds from three stats in his young career.
