Amazed By Grace Breezes For LaBrea (G1)

December 15, 2009 · By · Share

Amazed By Grace turned in her first serious work over the Santa Anita surface in preparation for the $300,000 La Brea Stakes(G1) on December 26th, and it was, to say the least, amazing. Jockey Garrett Gomez came out to breeze her, and he loved her. Amazed By Grace went five furlongs in 1:00. The work was 2nd fastest of 35 at the distance. Gomez said the filly skipped over the synthetic surface.

Amazed By Grace is currently stabled in West Point trainer Carla Gaines' barn at Santa Anita. Her trainer, Guadalupe Preciado told Carla Gaines to have the filly breeze a strong five furlongs and gallop out six furlongs. Carla kept the clock on her for six furlongs and caught her galloping out in 1:13.2. She even continued on to seven furlongs. We wanted to get a little more air into her in this breeze because she will go seven furlongs in the La Brea. Gomez commented on the fact that her stride goes on forever, and he said he could not have gotten her to go slower. That's how easily she went.

She cooled out great after the work. Her groom, Dennis, who flew out from Philadelphia, said that she acts just like she is at home. Lupe will fly out on Monday leading up to the race. She will likely have one blow out in advance of the race.

Amazed By Grace is coming off an impressive victory in the $75,000 Cornucopia Stakes on November 24th at Philadelphia, in which she earned an extremely strong 93 Beyer Speed Figure. Her numbers have increased with every start, and we are confident she will take yet another step forward in the LaBrea. She has five wins and one third from seven career starts, and earnings of over $152,000. We are looking to continue her five race win streak.

The holiday season is an exciting time for West Point Thoroughbreds as we are hoping Amazed By Grace continues to amaze us.
