Belle of the Hall wins Jostle Stakes!!!
Belle (noun): A popular, attractive girl or woman, especially the most attractive one of a group. 41 fillies and mares ran on Saturday at Philadelphia Park, but one filly truly turned everyone's heads. There was one filly that came from New York and brought her winning ways. There was one filly that was so dazzling that she lured one of the nation's top jockeys away from all the other fillies on Saturday to ride her. Never was there a more aptly named filly than this undefeated lady that went off as the 1/2 favorite in the $200,000 Jostle Stakes. This belle had a name. Some now call her undefeated stakes winner. We call her our own, Belle of the Hall.
Belle of the Hall broke sharply from post five in the six and a half furlong race and quickly assumed a stalking position in second through the early stages of the race. She was a head back through a quarter-mile in 22.2. Jockey Ramon Dominguez eased Belle of the Hall back a bit as she sat a length and a half back through a half-mile in 45 flat. Belle of the Hall ranged up at the top of the stretch and struck the front outside the eighth-pole. She put away the early pacesetter but had to withstand one more run from a closer. The eventual runner-up got within a half-length of collaring Belle of the Hall, but Belle dug in resolutely when challenged and spurted away again late win by three-quarters of a length. The winning time for the race was a sharp 1:15.2.
Trainer Tom Albertrani said, "I thought the filly was moving comfortable the whole time. We wanted to just follow the early pacesetter. The longshot went out early, and we just wanted to sit off her. I told Ramon to move when ready. She made the lead and just kept running to the wire. This was a big step, and she passed it with flying colors. We had a plan, and it came together perfectly."
Jockey Ramon Dominguez said, "My filly felt great. She was nice and relaxed. She made the lead pretty easily when I asked her. That other filly made a run at her, but my filly was not going to let her past no matter how far they went."Belle of the Hall earned an 87 Beyer in the race, matching her last race. We are now all systems are go for the $250,000 Test Stakes on August 7th at Saratoga.
