Dominant Jeannes Wins!
The wait has paid off. Dominant Jeannes broke his maiden yesterday in wire to wire fashion at Belmont. It has been a long road with our son of Pleasantly Perfect, but here we are with a very solid, fresh three-year-old this fall.
The scratch of the 1 horse left us on the rail. Dominant Jeannes broke very well so Javier Castellano used our horse's long stride to his advantage and went out for the lead, and there was no looking back. He lead through opening fractions of 22.70 and 46.07 before fending off the serious challenge of De Price in the lane to score by 3/4 of a length. The final time for the 6 furlong contest was 1:10.26 over the fast going.
Trainer Tom Albertrani said, "This horse has turned into something special. I told Javier that I thought we could get an easy lead with the scratch of the inside horse. We did not have an ideal post position or distance today and he still proved to be all class. I think we will see his best around two turns. Keep in mind, his sire, Pleasantly Perfect loved classic distances. I think we have a very versatile horse on our hands; he can rate and also show speed. I was very impressed today."
Jockey Javier Castellano said, "This is a nice horse. He broke very well and I was able to get an easy lead. When the favorite (De Price) came up on my outside, my horse was very game and kept going to the wire. We have not gotten to the bottom of this horse yet."
Dominant Jeannes earned $30,600 for maiden breaking victory. He also earned an impressive 91 Beyer Speed Figure for the race. Look for him to run back in late October or early November.
