WPT Purchases Colonel John filly/More Than Ready colt at Saratoga Sale
West Point Thoroughbreds was active at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale earlier this week. The newest members of the stable are a bay daughter (hip 40) of the multiple grade one winner Colonel John and a chestnut colt (hip 147) by top sire More Than Ready.
Hip 40 was consigned by Alfred H. Nuckols’ Hurstland Farm and bred in the Bluegrass State of Kentucky. Her dam, Doc’s Destiny, is graded stakes placed, a four time winner, and the dam of four winners included graded stakes placed runners Heart of Destiny and Brother Bobby.
“The folks at Hurstland raise durable, athletic horses,” said WPT president Terry Finley. “Colonel John is a very exciting stallion who has four individual winners in his first crop. We’re very keyed in on two turn, stamina driven pedigrees, and this one very much fits that mold.

Hip 147, the new More Than Ready colt was bred in the Sunshine State of Florida and consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency. This colt’s pedigree is strong. More Than Ready is a top international stallion with 55 graded stakes winners to his credit. On the female side you’ll see this horse is a half brother to multiple stakes winner Citizen Advocate. Under the second dam are the rock solid Phipps runners Hymn Book and Data Link.
“This is a colt we went back and looked at several times throughout the week,” said Terry Finley. “He actually reminds me quite a bit of Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Drosselmeyer when he was a yearling. He’s a big, stout, good bodied horse.”
