His sire Holy Roman Emperor (Ire) was rated the second best two-year-old in the world in 2006, and not by much. He was beaten only a head by Europe's undefeated champion juvenile Teofilo in the Dewhurst Stakes(G1), and won two Group 1s impressively himself. Coolmore chose to retire him to stud sound the next spring because of George Washington's infertility, and he took a star-studded pedigree with him. Holy Roman Emperor is half brother to three stakes winners, and his dam, by the great broodmare sire of sires Secretariat, is half sister to no less than three champions and out of multiple champion Fanfreluche, by Northern Dancer. Pedigrees just don't get any better than that.
Danehill is already sire of leading sires Danehill Dancer, Redoute's Choice, and Flying Spur. Holy Roman Emperor is bred exactly like Flying Spur, descending directly from Fanfreluche, so Holy Roman Emperor is as close to a sure thing to make a good sire as there is.
This colt is the first foal of his dam, who is a half sister to a stakes-placed filly and by a horse we really like, top sire and emerging broodmare sire Mr. Greeley. The second dam, multiple Group 2 winner Ting a Folie, is full sister to a multiple Group 1 winner in Argentina, but it is an American family that traces to Jacques Wimpfheimer's wonderful mare Petite Rouge.
Danehill and his sons have had spectacular success with Mr. Prospector line mares, producing champions like Mastercraftsman (Ire), Miss Finland and Alexander Tango. Both his sire and dam have American pedigrees and this colt has the potential to be dangerous on any surface.
