A Longlongtimeago debuted with a promising glimpse for the future. His name reflecting the opening lyrics in the classic song American Pie, the son of Maclean’s Music delivered a strong first impression of his own, driving to a debut victory Thursday in a New York-bred maiden special weight at Aqueduct.
The bay colt showed terrific poise going 6 furlongs, tracking a few lengths off the lead and waiting patiently through the turn for a chance to pounce. He did just at the top of the lane, shifting out for Manny Franco and rallying to score by a half-length.
“This is a serious horse,” jockey Manny Franco said. “Not often can I say, he did everything right, but today that was the case. Thank you to the partners for the opportunity.”
