Meow! Anniversary Kitty made her first start since April a winning one, rallying from last to first in a California-bred allowance over the weekend at Santa Anita. Trained by Craig Dollase, this was her first try over the unique hillside turf course. Midway down the stretch, track announcer Trevor Denman proclaimed, “And Anniversary Kitty coming like an express train down the middle of the track!”
The near black filly is owned by Highlander Racing Stable and West Point Thoroughbreds. WPT purchased an interest in her in early 2014 after she ran lights out in the Cal Cup Oaks in just her second career start.
“You never know what to expect when a horse returns for the first time in ten months, but she was very game and definitely handled the downhill course,” said Dollase. “Edwin Maldonado gave her a patient ride today and was able to get clear at the top the stretch.”
The first quarter goal for the daughter of Tribal Rule is the $100,000 Irish O’Brien Stakes (CA) on March 14 at Santa Anita.
