Anniversary Kitty Switches to Dirt in Santa Ysabel (G3) / Saturday, March 1, 2014

Earlier this month, West Point Thoroughbreds acquired an interest in stakes placed 3-year-old filly Anniversary Kitty. Co-owned with Highlander Stable, she’s set to run in the WPT colors for the first time in Saturday’s $100,000 Santa Ysabel Stakes (G3) at Santa Anita.

This near black filly broke her maiden in polished fashion in December at Hollywood Park for trainer Craig Dollase before running lights out in the Cal Cup Oaks at Santa Anita on January 25. After breaking from post 14, she was wide most of the way before closing like a freight train to get up for second.

The Santa Ysabel will be Anniversary Kitty’s first start on conventional dirt. With rainy weather in the forecast through the weekend, it’s very likely the race will be run over wet going. Tribal Rule offspring are known for handling the slop.

“Anniversary Kitty’s first two races were very impressive,” said WPT president Terry Finley. “She ran a 9 on the Ragozin Sheets last time, which is a strong number for a three-year-old filly. We know we have a talented turf horse on our hands, but now’s the time to see if she can transfer her form to the dirt. She could be Kentucky Oaks material.”

The Santa Ysabel is race 8 on Saturday’s card with a 4:00 pm PT/7:00 pm ET post time. Anniversary Kitty breaks from post two in the field of eight under Joe Talamo.
