Awesome Vision Wins 3rd Stake of 2013 / Friday, November 22, 2013

He doesn’t always change leads in the stretch, but you know if he’s rollin’ at the quarter pole, chances are he gets his nose in front.

NY-bred Awesome Vision found the winner’s circle for the fifth time in 2013 over the weekend at Aqueduct. Dispatched at odds of 6.10-1 (despite his affinity for Aqueduct, the betting public didn’t show him too much love after two recent so-so efforts), AV had a great view of the entire field down the backstretch before swinging four wide on the turn and mowing them all down.

Trained by Tom Albertrani and ridden by Irad Ortiz Jr., Awesome Vision is a barn favorite. He dead-heated with the ever-loved Saginaw in the Compelling Word Stakes earlier this year before capturing the Saratoga Sunrise Stakes at the Spa. He’s six for eight at Aqueduct — talk about a love of the “Big A”.

“It’s great to have “the Visj” back in the winner’s circle,” said WPT president Terry Finley. “He’s certainly had a productive year and has an affinity for Aqueduct. I’m not sure that he’ll win top honors, but with his body of work in 2013, I think he should at least be talked about in the New York bred horse of the year race. There’s plenty of money to be won in the statebred ranks, but he also has a shot to be a force in the older handicap division as a five-year-old and beyond.”

In 2011, we asked the public to submit names for a dark bay colt by Awesome Again out of Blind Canyon. The winner? Awesome Vision.
