Awesome Vision has this winning thing down. Our 3-year-old son of Awesome Again put together back-to-back victories March 25 when taking a New York-bred mile allowance event at Aqueduct in spite of running greenly in the early stages. He was coming off a maiden-breaking score exactly one month previous at the Ozone Park oval.

Our 3-year-old son of Awesome Again put together back-to-back victories March 25 when taking a New York-bred mile allowance event at Aqueduct in spite of running greenly in the early stages. He was coming off a maiden-breaking score exactly one month previous at the Ozone Park oval.
Jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. struggled to rate our keen contender, but after fighting a bit down the backside early on, the duo settled down at the back of the pack. Three wide through the turn, Awesome Vision forced his way out at the three-eighths pole and was set down for the drive at the quarter pole. He kicked in with a great turn of foot through the final furlongs, drawing away to a 1 ¼-length win despite shying from left-handed urging by the rider.
“I had to fight him a little bit to relax,” said Ortiz. “But when I asked him to go, he took off.”
“This horse is still learning the game,” said trainer Mike Hushion. “He was throwing his head around down the backside, and shied from the left-handed stick down the lane. Just signs of inexperience. Once he settled for Irad, he went through an opening, wasn’t afraid to get bumped around, and finished strong. He’s a nice horse.”
“It’s great having solid NY-breds in the barn this time of year,” said Terry Finley. “We were patient with this colt last summer and didn’t push to make Saratoga as he was immature physically. If you watch the replay, you can tell he’s developed into a big, strong individual. We have a number of first-time owners in on this horse, so it’s especially exciting that he’s won two in a row.”
What an exciting race! There were a number of West Point Partners on hand to celebrate the victory. Awesome Vision came out of his win in great shape and will get some time to recharge his batteries before we talk next race options in early April.
