Belle of the Hall Runs 4th in Breeders' Cup F&M Sprint

West Point Thoroughbreds’ 5-year-old mare Belle of the Hall competed against the best female sprinters in the world and finished a credible 4th behind Groupie Doll in the $1-million Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (G1) on Saturday, November 3 at Santa Anita. A daughter of Graeme Hall trained by Tom Albertrani, Belle of the Hall (known as Belle around the barn) was coming off a big effort in the Valor Lady Stakes on October 3 at Belmont Park. In the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint, Belle settled comfortably after a good start under Irad Ortiz, Jr. and saved ground along the inside before mounting her rally to finish about nine lengths behind the well-respected and dominant Groupie Doll.

A number of Belle of the Hall Partners joined Terry Finley, Jeff Lifson, and Tom Bellhouse is Southern California this week to cheer on their mare who proved she has what it takes to compete with the world's best.

"She ran a good race," said WPT president Terry Finley. "The winner is a freak of nature and the runner up ran the race of her life. I'm here at the sale in Kentucky and there's some buzz in the air. Belle of the Hall may not have the strongest pedigree and race record at this sale, but she's a big, beautiful, kind mare."

With six wins to her credit, Belle of the Hall has earned over $493,000 in her career. As a 3-year-old she captured the Jostle and Catinca Stakes, and was third in the Test (G1) at Saratoga. This year she won an allowance race at Gulfstream Park and was second in the Marta Stakes at Belmont before finishing a closing fourth in three straight graded stakes events, including the Ballerina (G1) at Saratoga.
