Raise your glasses! Toasting Master, West Point Thoroughbreds’ 2-year-old son of Congrats broke his maiden by over four lengths at second asking over the weekend at Churchill Downs. After breaking alertly he took command from the gitgo before cutting the corner, drawing off in the stretch, and being geared down late.

Purchased by Terry Finley and the WPT buying team at the 2014 OBS March Sale, Toasting Master is a three quarter brother to stakes winner R Gypsy Gold and half brother to 2012 Kentucky Oaks (G1) runnerup Broadway Gold and multiple graded stakes winner Golden Lad. Talk about a runnin' family.
“When this horse learns a thing or two, he’s going to be really serious,” said trainer Dale Romans. “This was an easy win on talent alone against a nice group of two-year-olds.”
“Today he was much better than he was in his first start, but is still looking around a little bit and has room to mature,” said jockey Miguel Mena. “I galloped today despite him goofing off a little bit. I love this horse.”
Happy Partners joined Dale, Miguel, and WPT EVP Jeff Lifson in the winner’s circle under the Twin Spires on Saturday afternoon. Their colt’s next start is to be determined, but stakes action could definitely be in his future. A registered Florida-bred, Toasting Master will spend the winter at Gulfstream Park.
