Dancing Compass Breaks Maiden at Parx / Wednesday, February 1, 2012

Dancing Compass got her first win by a nose at Parx Racing and Gaming Jan. 28 in what turned out to be a beneficial change of locations and surfaces.

Our 4-year-old daughter of Orientate set the pace in a mile-long maiden claiming event on the dirt and held off a late run from Cascade’s Comet, one of nine other fillies and mares. She went the distance in a final time of 1:39.21 and paid $3.20 on a $2 ticket as the heavy favorite. Jockey Jose Flores was in the irons.

“Jose did a good job keeping a little in the tank to use down the lane,” said trainer Lupe Preciado. “She ran great first time out for our barn.”

The victory took Dancing Compass to a 1-4-2 record from 12 starts. The decision to move her to Parx was made after her season debut at Gulfstream, where she ran fourth going a mile on the turf.

“This is a hard-trying filly who has been knocking on the door for quite some time,” remarked West Point Thoroughbreds founder and president Terry Finley. “She’s been a regular among the top three and it just took some outside-the-box management to find the right place for her to find success. We’re pleased with the progress Lupe made and look forward to her next time out.”

Look for Dancing Compass to run back at Parx in a few weeks. Congratulations to her Partners!
