Ellieonthemarch ran a strong second in the $150,000 Orchid Handicap(G2) at Gulfstream Park.  Despite enduring a rough trip, Ellie was closing gamely at the end to get beaten only a half-length.

Trainer Rick Violette, Jr. said, “I thought we were in real trouble when she stumbled at the start.  Then we ended up checking a couple times and lost a lot of momentum.  When she got clear on the turn for home, she finished up really well.  She would have won if we had another fifty yards.”

Rick went on to say, “This filly has really turned into a top level runner since we have been able to really stretch her out on the turf.  The longer we go, the better she runs.”

Ellieonthemarch will tentatively be pointed for the $100,000 Bewitch Stakes(G3) on April 27th at Keeneland.
