He worked in company with fellow Derby entrant Jazil. Flashy Bull’s regular exercise rider Desmond “Desi” Farrell was up on Flashy Bull. Angel Cordero Jr. was up on Jazil. The pair broke off nicely. Kiaran McLaughlin caught Flashy Bull at 12.2 and then 12 flat in each of the last four furlongs.
Desi did not really ask Flashy Bull for much. Cordero did nudge Jazil a little late and he finished about a half-length in front of Flashy Bull. Desi continues to allow Flashy Bull to gallop strongly through the turn as Cordero remained somewhat energetic on Jazil as well. Jazil drew away early after the wire, but in typical Flashy Bull style he continues and a nice strong and sterady clip putting daylight on Jazil but the end of gallop out.
Kiaran said right after the work, “It was perfect. I told Desi to try and get about twelve second eighths all the way throughout. I wanted about a minute and change, and he was right on it. I loved the way he galloped out all the way through the turn. He kept it going well, and you want to see that in your last work before the Derby.”
Desi said, “He felt great. He did it in hand. Kiaran didn’t want us to go too fast. My horse won’t work fast by himself, but when you hook him up with company he will get going if you ask him. I wanted him to go strong but easy. I’ve been on this horse since he was two, and he feels as good as he ever has.”
Terry Finley said this morning, “He breezed well today, and we’re planning to see if he is good enough to get a piece of the Kentucky Derby.”
