West Point Thoroughbreds’ and Tom Keithley’s 3-year-old filly Flashy Gray is pointing for the $1,000,000 Kentucky Oaks (G1) on Friday, May 3 at Churchill Downs.
Flashy Gray is currently 6th on the Kentucky Oaks leaderboard, with 60 qualifying points. 40 of those points were earned when finishing a game second in the Fair Grounds Oaks (G2) on Saturday in New Orleans. She earned 20 points earlier in the month with a runner up effort in the Honeybee (G2) at Oaklawn.

A daughter of Flashy Bull trained by Hall of Famer Bill Mott, Flashy Gray has already shown an affinity for the Louisville, Kentucky oval — she broke under the Twin Spires by over 10 lengths on November 11.
“Bill (Mott) and I decided to point for the Fair Grounds Oaks in lieu of a race like the Fantasy because it gave us more time before the first Friday in May — five weeks between races,” said WPT president Terry Finley. “We were very pleased with her effort in the Fair Grounds Oaks — she ran a 95 Beyer, two points higher than (Louisiana Derby winner) Revolutionary, and a 6 on the Ragozin Sheets. It was a very nice progression from her two turn debut in the Honeybee.”
Flashy Gray will look to become the first Kentucky Oaks winner for a West Point racing partnership and for distinguished trainer Bill Mott. “She came out of the Fair Grounds Oaks in great shape,” said Mott. “She rated nicely in the Fair Grounds Oaks and dug in down the lane. The numbers came back strong and we’re pointing for the Kentucky Oaks.”
WPT has a tie to another Kentucky Oaks probable — Dreaming of Julia. Trained by Todd Pletcher, Dreaming of Julia is out of the multiple grade one winner Dream Rush, who campaigned under the black and gold. Dreaming of Julia stamped her ticket to the Kentucky Oaks with a romp in the Gulfstream Oaks over the weekend.
