It’s not unusual to see 2010 Eclipse Award winning jockey Ramon Dominguez in the winner’s circle. So we weren’t surprised after he won the first race at Aqueduct yesterday. Or won the second race to take the daily double. Handicappers started to wonder if he could he pull off a three-peat. We sure thought so.
We were optimistic about our chances to take a picture with our strikingly gorgeous son of Flatter. Flat Bold was making his second start off of a layoff, running back in allowance company after a game second place finish at PARX Racing at Philadelphia Park last time out. Flat Bold was back at the Big A, site of his maiden victory in 2009.
After breaking sharply, pilot Ramon Dominguez sat patiently, about two lengths behind a trio of salty speedsters duking it out for the lead through the first quarter mile in 22 and 3/5ths seconds. Ramon reported, “When the rail wasn’t going to open up, I uncovered him to the outside and told him it was time to go. He did everything I asked and eagerly took dead aim at the front runners.” Upon striking the front, Flat Bold never looked back and drew clear under a hand ride to win by 1 length as the 1.50-1 favorite in the field of five. Needless to say, there were some very joyful Partners on hand to greet Flat Bold as he returned to the winner’s circle.
Winning trainer Tom Albertrani said, “We made the right move pulling this horse out of the Toboggan(G3) last week and returning to our original plan. He’s been training fabulously in the mornings, so I knew he’d fire big on Friday. This dominant win will send his confidence meter skyward, and we have good things to look forward to this spring.”
Flat Bold earned his Partners $28,800 for his fourth career victory. Watch the race by clicking here.
