Going For Gold With Cagliostro, Giant Game and Vahva / Friday, July 7, 2023

West Point has the trio of Cagliostro, Giant Game and Vahva lined up for Graded stakes races on Saturday in the heat of summer racing as we approach the start of the Saratoga and Del Mar meets.

Coming off a near miss in allowance company at Churchill Downs, Cagliostro will step up in the $300,000 Indiana Derby (G3) at Horseshoe Indianapolis.

Cherie DeVaux trains Cagliostro, who will have up-and-coming jockey Edgar Morales in the irons. Watch Cagliostro break his maiden at Fair Grounds.

Giant Game hit the board in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile a couple years back and heads for Saturday night’s $300,000 Cornhusker Handicap (G3) at Prairie Meadows off a determined win at Churchill with jockey Martin Garcia. Dale Romans trains Giant Game, a four-year-old from the final crop of late sire Giant’s Causeway.

Vahva also exits a Churchill win on Kentucky Oaks Day and has been primed by Cherie DeVaux for Saturday’s Grade 3 Victory Ride Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at Belmont Park.

Vahva is a stakes-placed daughter of Gun Runner.
