Gold Megillah On His Toes For Saturday’s Lexington Stakes / Thursday, April 19, 2012

Coming off a solid third-place finish in the March 24 Rushaway Stakes at Turfway Park, Gold Megillah continues his climb in company with a start in Saturday’s Lexington Stakes (G3) at Keeneland. Our 3-year-old son of Purim has been training forwardly for Graham Motion and was on his toes Thursday morning when West Point Thoroughbreds communications director Erin Finley stopped by the Lexington oval.

“He looks great and we’re expecting him to step up to the next level Saturday,” she said. “This horse has really grown up since the winter and he’s full of himself, that’s for sure.”

“I’ve always been high on this colt and he’s progressing the right way,” Motion remarked. “We know he likes Polytrack and he showed a good turn of foot in the Rushaway when he came with a late run.”

Gold Megillah flashed talent last November at Churchill Downs when he broke his maiden by 18 ½ lengths going 1 1/16 miles, the same distance as the Rushaway and Lexington, over an off track. He has been in the money three of four starts this year and takes a 1-2-2 record from eight starts into Saturday’s $200,000 event.

Eclipse Award-winning jockey John Velazquez has the call breaking from the outside post in a field of 11. The Lexington is race nine on a 10-race card with an approximate post time of 5:13 p.m. ET. View Complete Entries.
