LEXINGTON, KY – Gold Megillah takes a step up in company Sunday at Keeneland as one in a field of 13 entered for the 1 1/16-mile Bourbon Stakes (G3).

Our precocious 2-year-old son of Purim ran second last time out in a Sept. 17 maiden special weight at the same distance on the turf, that loss by three-quarters of a length coming after the colt tangled on the dirt with sensational 2-year-old Fire On Ice, who won his Aug. 27 debut at Saratoga by 10 ¾ lengths.

“We know he’s still a maiden but he really jumped up when we switched him to the grass,” trainer Graham Motion said. “He’s getting better and better and his pedigree indicates he should love the turf and two turns.”

“Now’s the time to give him a shot and see if he’s made of what we think he’s made of,” Terry Finley remarked. “If we get lucky and he runs well in this one, we’re headed to the Breeders’ Cup.”

Jockey Rajiv Maragh will be in the saddle in the $150,000 Bourbon, race eight on a 10-race card with an approximate post time of 5:13 p.m. Eastern. Gold Megillah drew post seven in the 13-horse field. All runners carry 118 pounds.
