High Finance won big in the MSW going seven furlongs on April 15th at Keeneland.

High Finance won big in the MSW going seven furlongs on April 15th at Keeneland. He broke a bit slow, rushed into contention early, stalked the two pacesetters, drew even on the turn, and drew off through the lane in a vigorous hand ride to crush the field by over nine-lengths.

Trainer Rick Violette said, “Wow.  This was a performance we were all waiting for, and it couldn’t have come on a better stage than Keeneland.  He still is learning as he goes along.  He didn’t change leads in the lane today.  I still really think this horse wants to go longer.  I’d love to try him at maybe a mile and a sixteenth next time.  It’s one turn up at Belmont, and he might be able to settle into a nice comfortable stride at a high cruising speed, have the jock drop the reins and see how he’ll go.  This horse has some talent, and if he will go longer like I think, then we’ll have a lot of options open to us.  We’ll get back up to New York and probably look at an allowance race, but you never know.  We might get bold.”

Jockey Rafael Bejarano said, “This is a nice colt.  He didn’t break too sharp, so I had to push on him a little bit early to get in contention.  When we got where I wanted to be he came back to me really nicely.  I just waited until I wanted to go, and when I asked him he responded beautifully.  He didn’t switch leads, so I hit him a couple times.  He was still going really well, so I didn’t keep after him.  I let him do it on his own and just rode him out.  He did it real easily.”

High Finance increased his career earnings to $47,545.
