Standout From First Crop of Undefeated Grade 1 Winner

    • Highest-Priced Colt From First Crop of Meteoric Grade 1 Winner

    • Reunites West Point and Violas, Co-Owners of Kentucky Derby Winner

    • Todd Pletcher Trained Army Mule And Will Receive This Colt

Army Mule was a meteoric racehorse, winning all three of his starts, topped off by a 7-length romp in the Grade 1 Carter Handicap. Hill ‘n’ Dale Farm in Kentucky is launching his stud career as if he can follow the same lead of Maclean’s Music, also for Hill ‘n’ Dale, and the legacy of legendary sires Raise a Native (4-for-4 on the track) and Danzig (3-for-3).

The new colt happens to be out of a Maclean’s Music mare and he commanded the co-highest price to date for a son or daughter of Army Mule. Vinnie Viola raced Army Mule under the banner of his St. Elias Stable and has been actively buying some of the best progeny from his first crop of yearlings.

Viola, the owner of the NHL’s Florida Panthers hockey team, got into Thoroughbred racing as a Partner with West Point Thoroughbreds and teamed up with WPT to land the new colt. Viola was a co-owner, along with West Point, in 2017 Kentucky Derby hero Always Dreaming. The colt is also co-owned by longtime West Point Partner Rob Masiello.

Hill ‘n’ Dale bred the new colt out of Made Me Shiver, a stakes winner at 2 at Monmouth Park. Todd Pletcher will train the colt, as he did Army Mule, whom Viola bought for $825,000 as a 2-year-old in training.

Price includes all acquisition costs and all training, veterinary, and insurance expenses until January 1, 2023.
