John Sadler came to the OBS March Sale on a mission to find top-quality horses for the partnership of Mike Talla and West Point Thoroughbreds. This colt was the first 2-year-old the partnership signed the ticket on and he’ll be on a westbound plane within the next few weeks.
He has a well-above-average stride length (25.67 feet) and is an excellent fit for Southern California dirt racing. Take a look at his pedigree, and you’ll see a family full of quality horses, including Laurie’s Rocket (trained by our own Dallas Stewart).
“It’s a dirt pedigree through and through. A classic dirt-type horse who John wants to have on the Derby trail this time next year. We know Eddie Woods well and he’s been very, very high on this colt all winter.” -David Ingordo
Bernardini, a son of the famous A.P. Indy, was an exceptional racehorse, winning second time out and then going on a five-race tear. His biggest wins came in the 2006 Preakness Stakes (G1), Travers Stakes (G1), and Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1), and he sired back-to-back Travers Stakes winners in Alpha and Stay Thirsty. Bernardini unfortunately passed away in 2021, so this colt is part of his second to last crop.
Price includes all acquisition costs and all training, veterinary, and insurance expenses until January 1, 2023.
He’s the type of horse you need to have to get to races like the Santa Anita Derby and Kentucky Derby — a big, strong, two-turn colt with a dirt pedigree.
