Candy Ride/Magic Star colt

    • First foal from a graded stakes winning Scat Daddy mare

    • Candy Ride the sire of Gun Runner

    • Heading to Hall of Famer Steve Asmussen

Introducing our stunning, shiny copper penny of a chestnut Candy Ride colt, Hip 220, who we struck for early on Day 2 of Keeneland September.

Candy Ride needs no introduction as the sire of 112 stakes winners and eight champions, but it’s worth noting that he’s also been a terrific sire of sires, represented by star stallions Gun Runner and Twirling Candy who sit at or near the tops of their respective classes, and his freshman sire sons Game Winner and Vekoma garnering a ton of buzz, just to name a few.

On the dam side, this pedigree is chock full of quality. Hip 220 is the first foal out of Magic Star, a graded stakes-winning daughter of Scat Daddy, who was well on his way to becoming one of the top stallions in the world before his untimely passing at the age of 11.

Magic Star is herself a daughter of Meadow Breeze, who captured the Grade I Matron Stakes as a 2-year-old, while third dam Unacloud produced a whopping 11 winners, including Grade I victor and stallion Overanalyze. Quality, speed, and consistency up and down the page.

Physically, Hip 220 is a tall, correct, long-striding colt with a powerful hind end and a frame that should support significant muscle growth as he develops into a 2-year-old.

Trainer Steve Asmussen loves the colt and how much he resembles Gun Runner, Steve’s son of Candy Ride who earned nearly $16 million and is now a top sire.

Syndication price includes all veterinary, training, acquisition, and legal costs through January 1, 2025.
