The meteoric rise of young sire City of Light culminated in a sale-topper on Wednesday at Keeneland September when this colt commanded the spotlight and induced a bidding war, with West Point and Partners ecstatic to come out on top.
Jeff Lifson said, “The entire sale knew about him before the hammer ever fell. They talked about this colt in the lunch line, the business office, the back ring, the barns, even at the sink in the men’s room. I was at each spot. He was that horse.
”How is it possible to be both captivatingly pretty and awe-inspiring? Can nature and breeding combine to produce a Monet lily pond and Michelangelo David?
“Look at the new pictures…you be the judge. Monet and Michelangelo….he’s that combo.”
Terry Finley added, “After 30 years, I think about when I first came here, and I thought it was the best thing in the world when we bought a horse for $12,000,” Terry said. “And now, we get a shot to buy horses like this with great partners and great people. It's just incredible. … You just start dreaming with these kinds of horses, and just hope you get lucky.”
The colt is from the same female family of a very good sire, Broken Vow. The newcomer’s dam, a stakes-placed daughter of Tapit, also is kin to Graded stakes winners and venerable sires Where’s the Ring and Service Stripe.
Price includes all acquisition costs and all training, veterinary, and insurance expenses until January 1, 2023.
