City of Light was all the rage at the 2021 yearling sales and the industry is looking forward to his first runners hitting the track this year.
The buzz is for good reason — he’s a beautiful, talented son of top sire Quality Road who won the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1) before putting a bow on his career with a romp in the Pegasus World Cup (G1).
Before the OBS April Sale, David Ingordo put a group together to buy classic, two-turn dirt colts to be trained by longtime Chad Brown assistant Cherie DeVaux. This colt checked all the boxes. Bred on the same cross as three grade one winners (Emblem Road, Dunbar Road, and Bellafina), he worked 10 and one before the sale before commanding a ton of attention back at the barn.
“This colt is a powerhouse physical,” said David Ingordo. “He was consigned by Mayberry Farm, and I trust April when she says she has her hands on a good one. She’s had horses like Flightline, Zenyatta, Accelerate, and Rich Strike as two-year-olds.”
