Same Sire, Same 2yo Sale as Derby Winner

Good Magic Colt

  • Derby Hero Mage Came From Fasig-Tipton Midlantic

  • Sire Was An Eclipse Champion, Breeders’ Cup Hero as 2yo

  • From Family of World-Class World of Trouble

Champion juvenile Good Magic, often overshadowed on the racetrack by Triple Crown winner Justify, beat his rival to the punch in the breeding shed by being the first to sire a Classic winner in Kentucky Derby hero Mage last spring. He’s proven that was no one-off, with an array of other Triple Crown contenders from his first two crops, including Muth, Dornoch, Society Man, Blazing Sevens, Curly Jack and Dubyuhnell.

Good Magic’s popularity–and stud fee, now at a whopping $125,000–continues to skyrocket as a result, one of many reasons we were thrilled to bring home this speedy 2-year-old son of the Hill ‘n’ Dale star stallion at a great price at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic sale in Timonium.

Hip 187 is a Florida-bred, giving him all kinds of lucrative bonus and restricted stakes incentives in the Sunshine State. He comes from Steve Venosa’s SGV Thoroughbreds consignment, one of the most respected and productive 2-year-old developers in the industry. The blaze-faced bay colt went an easy furlong in :10 1/5 over the dirt surface and cornered professionally into the tight turns, reaching out strongly all the way through the gallop out.

The female side of this pedigree is layered with speed, speed, speed that should perfectly complement Good Magic’s stamina influence, as first dam Money Or Love is a stakes winner at 6 1/2 furlongs out of multiple graded stakes-winning sprinter J Be K. Both of her foals to make it to the races thus far are winners, and she’s a half-sister to the brilliant millionaire World of Trouble, who’s one of the rare stallions to boast Grade I wins on dirt and turf. An eight-time stakes victor and a Florida-bred just like this colt, World of Trouble followed up a score in the Carter Handicap with a conquest of the Jaipur Invitational Stakes in 2019. This is also the family of swift-footed Bucchero, a seven-time stakes winner who, like World of Trouble, is now an exciting young stallion.

Hip 187 will be headed to the barn of Eclipse Award-winning trainer Dale Romans, who campaigned graded stakes hero Giant Game for West Point in 2023.

Price includes all acquisition costs and all training, veterinary, and insurance expenses until January 1, 2025.
