As satisfied as we were with our stellar class of yearlings at the Fasig-Tipton New York-Bred Sale, we had to jump back in for a piece of one more horse when Christophe Clement found one of the steals of the sale in Hip 477, a gorgeous colt by Kantharos bred by outstanding breeder Fred Hertrich. Hertrich loved this colt so much that he decided to stay in for a third, with us and Christophe each taking one of the other thirds.

Supremely balanced with excellent size for a yearling, Hip 477 was priced right despite being by an established stallion with 33 stakes winners whose horses have shown time and time again to be fast and precocious. Just last weekend, Kantharos was represented by Bay Storm, who became his latest millionaire when gamely scoring in the $1-million Grade II Ladies Turf Sprint Stakes at Kentucky Downs.

Hip 477 is the first foal out of a young mare by Broken Vow, who repeatedly proved himself as an outstanding and influential broodmare sire over his 20 years at Pin Oak Stud. Second dam Off Limits was stakes placed and produced Grade I-placed Off Topic, while further down in the pedigree reside Grade I winners and sires Miner’s Mark and Traditionally, as well as My Flag, the Grade I-winning dam of champion Storm Flag Flying.
