"Saturday horse.” It's a phrase you hear tossed around a lot in our game. We're all looking for those horses who can get us out to the track dressed to the nines for a graded stake on a Saturday. At the yearling and 2-year-old sales, there is virtually no way to guarantee it. It can be awfully tough to tilt the odds in your favor of finding one anywhere, except if you go to France.
We've tapped into the French market three times in the past two years with Boreale, Devamani, and Chipolata. As of right now, we're 2 for 3 with Saturday horses (and don't count Devamani out just yet on becoming one). Boreale was a winner in her first start in the US went onto be stakes-placed four times and should have been graded stakes-placed. Chipolata was G1 placed in her first start in the US and has a promising 4-year-old year in her sights.
The filly we just bought is also a 3-year-old set to turn 4 and is already a stakes winner in her native land. She's knocked heads against some of the best fillies in France and come out on top a couple times as well. She's also rated 3.5 points higher on the French rating system than Chipolata was when we bought her. Our superstar bloodstock agent David Ingordo singled this filly out and bought her before she had a chance to go through the Arqana December sale ring, she was that exciting a prospect to him.
