West Point asked Christophe Clement to be on the lookout for prospects for his stable at Keeneland September and he found a terrific value play: a Munnings filly (same sire as our Graded stakes winner Jaxon Traveler) and from a family that has thrived in the Clement stable.
A pretty chestnut, this is the first foal of a Hard Spun mare, from the immediate family of Meridiana, who won the Grade 2 Orchid at Gulfstream and Grade 3 Bewitch at Keeneland in back-to-back starts for Christophe in 2004. Meridiana has been just as successful as a broodmare, producing no less than five stakes horses (three stakes winners plus a Grade 1 runner-up in New York and a Grade 3 runner-up in New York), among them Chamois and Pine Needles for the Clement barn.
Munnings, a chestnut with a splash of white across his face, has definitely stamped this filly. The nick is rated an A++.
Munnings has been a sire coming into his own for some time now as a source of speed and often horses who carry that weapon over a route of ground. He is the sire of the Grade 1-winning two-turn filly I’m a Chatterbox as well as the blazing current runner Jack Christopher, who scored his third Grade 1 triumph recently in the Allen Jerkens Stakes at Saratoga.
Price includes all acquisition costs and all training, veterinary, and insurance expenses until January 1, 2024.
