Colt by top sire bred like City of Light
Quality Road ranked right up there with Into Mischief as the hottest sire commodity in Book One at Keeneland September, and this Quality Road colt caught the attention of both Albaugh Family Stable and West Point. In Monday’s opening session, the two forces elected to band together to bid him in.
Dale Romans will train the newcomer, just like Quality Road’s daughter Lady Traveler (who is bred on the same cross as this colt). Two years ago, West Point snagged Lady Traveler at Keeneland September, and she has gone on to be a very “quality” performer, earning stakes credentials at 2 and Grade 2 and Grade 3 placings so far in 2021 as a 3-year-old.
The new colt is from the family of Hall of Famer Silverbulletday, a machine of a filly back in the late 1990s when she steamed through the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1), the Kentucky Oaks (G1), and 12 other stakes. This colt’s dam is by Silver Deputy, just like Silverbulletday. He’s bred on the same cross as top grade one horses City of Light and Abel Tasman.
This is a tremendous mating. Silverbulletday is one of the best fillies I’ve seen in my 30 years in the game. And he’s bred on the same cross as the hottest sire around right now, City of Light.
