New York-bred Son of Blazing Young Sire
Laoban out to a blazing start at stud with New York-bred Grade 1 winner Simply Ravishing, Grade 2 winner Keepmeinmind.
Laoban has been a meteoric success as a stallion and this New York-bred colt looks to be more of the same, a typical strong specimen from the line of his grandsire Uncle Mo, and an ultra-impressive breeze at OBS April. The bay colt flashed one of the longest strides of the entire sale (25.7 feet) as he drilled an eighth of a mile in 10 and galloped out a quarter in 21.1 and three-eighths in a n eye-popping 33.3. Laoban captured the Grade 2 Jim Dandy Stakes at Saratoga as a maiden in 2016 and began his stud career there in the Empire State the following year. He did so well stamping his foals and improving the stock of the mares that were sent his way that he has now earned a place on one of the premier stallion rosters in the world at WinStar Farm in Kentucky. What paved that golden road was an array of 2-year-old stakes credentials from his first crop: New York-bred Simply Ravishing capturing both the P.G. Johnson at Saratoga and Grade 1 Alcibiades at Keeneland by more than 6 lengths, Keepmeinmind finishing third in the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile and winning the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club, and Laobanonaprayer winning a pair of New York-bred stakes. Christophe Clement will train the colt and look to add another chapter to his glittering resume with New York-breds as well as this extended family: underneath the third dam is Voodoo Dancer, one of Christophe's most accomplished mares, a Grade 1 winner at both Saratoga and at Belmont Park. Christophe consistently has worked wonders with New York-breds, steering the likes of Lubash, Discreet Marq and Disco Partner to millionaire status and victories in Graded stakes. The new colt will join Christophe's barn at Saratoga in short order. Price includes all acquisition costs and all training, veterinary, and insurance expenses until January 1, 2022.
