Solomini Filly

  • Solomini Finished Second in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile

  • Clement Barn Is Perennial Power With NY-Breds

  • Sharp Breeze With Long Stride For Proven Consignment

Speed, precocity, value and New York-bred incentives/bonuses are a powerful combination, and this steal of a filly from the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic sale will likely bring all of that to the table for her partners in 2024 and beyond.

The son of a Hall of Famer and one of the greatest sires of the 21st century in Curlin, Solomini broke running in his racing career with a debut win and placings in three Grade I’s as a 2-year-old, including in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, where he was second only to champion stablemate Game Winner. He added three more graded stakes placings in the spring of his sophomore campaign en route to over $800,000 in earnings and a spot in the stallion barn of top New York breeder McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds.

This dark bay filly blitzed a furlong in :10 1/5 over the Timonium dirt with a stride length nearly a foot over the average, placing her in the top quartile of breezers for her session. Her full-brother won as a 2-year-old in 2023, and her second dam Raw Gold won the Grade II Landaluce Stakes early in her 2-year-old season before adding six other stakes wins. She went on to produce a whopping 11 winners as a broodmare, including a pair of stakes winners, one of which in turn produced Grade I Test Stakes winner Paola Queen. Under the third dam is Grade I-winning 2-year-old Point Ashley.

The New York-bred program only continues to grow in prestige and value, with the New York Racing Association instituting a program last summer at Saratoga that offers significant purse boosts to New York-breds competing in open races in addition to the already-lucrative restricted New York-bred maiden, allowance and stakes races. A son of Solomini named Doc Sullivan starred on New York-bred Showcase Day at Saratoga on June 9, winning the Mike Lee Stakes!

This filly will be trained by Christophe Clement, whose outfit is one of the most respected in the business and has already conditioned multiple stakes winners for West Point in 2024 to follow up its graded stakes success with Carson’s Run and Parnac in 2023. And Christophe is a proven force with New York-breds: he has trained four millionaires that were bred in the Empire State. On Showcase Day, he showed off Drake’s Passage, who was dominant in the Commmentator Stakes for New York-breds.

The new filly comes from a proven source, David McKathan’s Grassroots consignment, which has done business with West Point for three decades. Among David McKathan’s alumni are leading sire Into Mischief, champion sprinter Mitole and West Point’s prolific Jaxon Traveler, who was a state-bred champion at 2 and 3.

Price includes all acquisition costs and all training, veterinary, and insurance expenses until January 1, 2025.

Jeff Lifson and David Ingordo Discuss the Solomini Filly:

Trainer: Christophe Clement

  • A leading US trainer for over 25 years, Christophe has acquired a reputation for meticulous attention to detail. He intentionally limits the size of his stable to a number that can be kept in just two locations at any point in time.
  • Top runners include Champion 2-time Eclipse Award winner, Gio Ponti, 4-time G1 winner, Tonalist, Gufo, and WPT graded stakes horses Carson’s Run, Decorated Invader, Best Performance, Kertez, and Parnac amongst others.
  • Christophe Clement has been nominated for the U.S. Hall of Fame, and hopefully before long should take his place there, for he is a credit to the sport, a man of unquestionable integrity for whom his honesty and proficiency, and skill as a trainer are a matter of personal pride.
